Robert Nahra, aka Chef Bobby to most, has successfully created many unique mouth watering recipes and dishes that has skyrocketed his culinary career over the years combining simple, fresh ingredients that are tied to his roots of Middle Eastern and Italian cuisine. The Lakeland name started with his mom when she opened her own catering business in 1976. Robert Nahra started cooking and helping his mother at the young age of 6 years old. His mother taught him to take the ingredients when cooking and put his heart into each dish. He didn’t quite understand this until he got a little older. His mother lovingly encouraged his growth and to pursue his career in the culinary arts.
Chef Bobby has turned many heads within the Metro Detroit area over the past several years. He is a familiar face on FOX 2 Detroit with the weekly Cooking School segment, WXYZ-TV Channel 7, Just Ask Talk Show and in Chuck Bennett’s Society Confidential Column in the Detroit News. He’s very well known for his famous Superbowl chili recipe that went viral on Yahoo news after his segment on WXYZ-TV Channel 7 in February. His resume is extensive with high profile venues and corporate companies including The Detroit Opera House, General Motors, GM Heritage Center, Royal Oak Music Theatre, The Detroit Masonic Temple, The Community House of Downtown Birmingham, Law Offices of Joumana Kayrouz, P.L.L.C. and Detroit City Airport to name just a few. He’s had the privilege of cooking for many celebrities including Elton John and The Dixie Chicks!
Chef Bobby is nationally ranked after Baron Chocolates brought him onboard as their Chocolatier. While growing up, he dabbled in the deserts and chocolates as a hobby creating candied delights with his mother. This was one of his favorite things to do while in the kitchen. A dream come true, he was invited to attend the 2016 Academy Awards ceremonies in Los Angeles, California representing Baron Chocolates and hand crafting mouth watering truffles onsite at several of the A-list festivities. The coveted candies included several unique flavors: spicy pumpkin seed, brownie and caramel, and coconut and almond. His chocolate creations were included in the Oscar swag bags for the celebrities that attended the event. Chef Bobby has also had the honor of working side by side with the world reknowned tennis athlete and star, Maria Sharopova at the 2016 Snack & Candy Expo in Chicago launching her new healthy chocolate snacks, Sugarpova. The two have partnered together and Chef Bobby will be producing her line of delicious treats in the near future. Chef Bobby also hopes to open his very own chocolate shop very soon in Eastern Market in Downtown Detroit.
He is always giving back to his cherished community in some way. He recently donated a seven-course gourmet dinner to be auctioned off at the Father Solanus Casey Center Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph Wine Gala, under the auspices of Vice Postulator, Father Larry Webber, Director of the Father Solanus Casey Guild. More recently, Chef Bobby catered an event for Presidential Candidate Marco Rubio, while on the campaign trail. He also pulled together picnic baskets for an event where Chuck Bennett took 826 inner city kids to Cedar Point for the Horatio Williams Foundation. They got to dine on shrimp cocktail, crab salad, chicken salad, fruit salad, pastries, grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes, filet mignon, and ribeye. Chef Bobby goes out of his way on many ocassions to help those in need. His heart is not only in the kitchen but also on his sleeve for those in need.
Bobby has focused on balancing his business and family which is extremely important to him. With his wife, Nadya, and two children, they devote atleast 2 nights a week to family dinners and get togethers for quality time. He also is an avid health and fitness enthusiast. He teaches spin (cycle) classes at LA Fitness in Grosse Pointe Woods regularly each week.
